Newton County was looking for revenge in Jackson Saturday, and the Lady Cougars found it in the form of a sweep over defending Class 3A slow-pitch state champion Mooreville.
The two squads sent last year's best-of-three state championship series to the final game where the Lady Cougars lost in extra innings.
Newton County took this year's games 11-9 and 4-0.
This is the fourth slow-pitch championship in school history and the second for head coach Justin Chaney.
The Lady Cougars advanced to the state final with a three-game series win over then-number 1 Southeast Lauderdale on Tuesday night.
