Rodney Gray tied the game with just three seconds left and Edward Lee scored on a 1-yard run in overtime to hoist Jackson State to a 43-40 victory over Alabama A&M Saturday.
The Tigers (6-3, 6-1 SWAC) and the Bulldogs (7-2, 5-2) entered the game tied for Number 1 in the East.
Alabama A&M rushed easily to a 13-0 lead by the 2:31 mark of the first quarter.
The Tigers responded with a 10-play drive to get on the scoreboard with a 38-yard Eric Perri field goal.
Jackson State quarterback Jimmy Oliver dominated the third quarter, completing 10-of-12 passes for 196 yards and all three scores in the period as the Tigers built a 30-19 lead.
Jeremy Licea added his third field goal of the game to cut the lead to 30-22 heading into the fourth.
The Bulldogs were ahead 37-to-30 with 5:35 left, but Gray tied the game after connecting with Oliver and running it in from the 5-yard line.
Licea's field goal from 41 yards put Alabama A&M ahead 40-37, but the lead was short-lived as Lee scored for the win.
