ECCC Sweeps EMCC on the Court

Saturday the EMCC women’s basketball team took on East Central Community College. The EMCC Lady Lions jumped out to an 10-4 lead behind the guard play of Kottie White. Yet during the later part of the 1st half East Central used their full court press to cause the lady lions some early foul trouble and turnovers. This brought the halftime score to East Central 36 and EMCC 31. Still much of the same for the lady lions in the 2nd half with problems of turnovers and missed oppourtunities. The lady lions did mount a charge with 5:52 left in the game, went on an 8-0 run to bring the game 49-52 score. Yet again, with the lady lions being in foul trouble East Central finished the game off at the foul line. The final score of the game was EMCC 57 and East Central 70. Leading the way for the lady lions was Kottie White with 10 points, and Tenesha Brown led East Central with 23. This loss brought the season record to (0-2).

Later Saturday the EMCC men took on the men of East Central. It was a back and forth game from the get-go has EMCC took an early lead at 14:00 mark with an 12-9 score. Early fouls and a key injury to starting guard Jarvis Hill, caused East Central to climb back into the lead with an halftime score of EMCC 35 and East Central 42. The lions came out firing with an 8-0 run to start the 2nd half to close the lead to 42-44. With a tough effort by Hill and the inside play of forward Quivarius Howard the lions stormed back to get one point back with 70-71 score with 6:20 left following a three point play by Howard. The game was neck and neck until East Central’s Marquis Wilson’s three point play with :38 seconds left made the score 94-87. East Central finished the game off with two free throws and ran off the clock. The final score was EMCC 87 and East Central 96. Quivarius Howard led the lions with 19 points, and Brandon Shelton led East Central with 36. This loss brings the lions record to (0-2).

Both teams play again Monday at Pearl River with women tipping off at 5:00 p.m., and the men at 7:00 p.m.
