Alcorn State coach Johnny Thomas has been fired. School officials told Thomas today that they will begin searching for a new coach.
Thomas' coaching contract will expire December 31st and not be renewed. A news release says university officials are talking with the Alcorn State graduate about hiring him in another position at the university.
Thomas finished 2-8 this season after Saturday's 31-19 loss to rival Jackson State. He was 47-62 overall in 10 years. He had 16 starters returning and said before the season he hoped to field a Southwestern Athletic Conference contender.
Nothing went as planned, though. The Braves started 0-5 and never recovered, losing three of their last four.
University officials thanked Thomas for his "unwavering services" to the university in their news release.
