Easley Out for Season

Mississippi guard Alliesha Easley will miss the remainder of the season after tearing a knee ligament.

Coach Renee Ladner said Easley, the team's top returning scorer, soon will have surgery and will take a medical redshirt this season.

Easley tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her knee in the season-opening loss to Nebraska. She scored 13 points in that game and played a team-high 32 minutes. She was listed as questionable for last Sunday's game against Louisiana-Lafayette, but did not play after tests revealed the injury.

Freshman Kayla Melson took Easley's spot in the starting lineup Sunday.

Easley was being counted on to help replace Armintie Price and two other seniors lost from last season's starting lineup. She averaged 11 points per game last year and was named to the Southeastern Conference's all-freshman team.
