Sophomore forward Grant Maxey scored a career-high 23 points and along with a game-high nine rebounds to lead Jackson State over Iona 74-70 in the seventh-place game of the Las Vegas Invitational Saturday.
Jeremy Caldwell had 16 points, Darrion Griffin had 12 and Chris Byche had 11 for Jackson State.
DeShaune Griffin led Iona with 14 points, while Milan Prodanovic had 11 points.
The Tigers halftime lead of 34-29 was cut to 40-39 with 16:42 left, but Jackson State went on a 16-4 run.
Iona made a late run, cutting the lead to 73-70 with 11 seconds left, but the Tigers went 8-of-10 from the free-throw line in the final 1:09.
