Caleb Forrest scored a career-high 13 points and No. 9 Washington State beat Mississippi Valley State 71-26 today (Saturday) in the Cougar Hispanic College Fund Challenge.
Kyle Weaver added 13 points and Aron Baynes grabbed nine rebounds as Washington State dominated the shorter Delta Devils from the opening buzzer.
Carl Lucas scored 18 points to lead the Delta Devils.
It was Washington State's best defensive showing since holding Idaho to 23 points in 1948. The Cougars held MVSU to just nine points in the second half and 27.9 percent shooting.
The Cougars out-rebounded the Delta Devils, 38-23.
MVSU also failed to score from the outside, going 0-for-15 from 3-point range. Washington State was a little better, going 3-for-15 from 3-point range.
The Cougars also made 24-of-30 free throws, while Mississippi Valley was just 2-of-9 from the line.
