The engineer of the Mississippi State defense that only allowed Conference USA champion Central Florida to score three points in the Liberty Bowl is now on his way to Fayetteville.
MSU released a statement Monday that defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson has been hired by Bobby Petrino to take over the same position at Arkansas.
This decision comes a week and a half after Bulldog head coach Sylvester Croom locked up raises for his coaching staff to keep them around for at least another season.
The vacationing Croom said in a press release that "We feel that we have done everything possible to keep Ellis here, but he indicated to me that his decision was in his family's best interest."
He added that he will move quickly to find a replacement.
Johnson has been the defensive coordinator at State since Croom's arrival in December 2003. This year, the Bulldogs were tied for fifth in the SEC in total defense.
