Harbison Named Bulldog Defensive Coordinator

The defensive coordinator position is no longer vacant in Starkville. Mississippi State head coach Sylvester Croom announced Friday that he is promoting safeties coach Charlie Harbison to defensive coordinator.

Harbison joined Mississippi State's staff last January and guided a Bulldog pass defense that was ranked fourth in the Southeastern Conference.

Croom also confirmed that former Arkansas assistant athletic director Louis Campbell will take over as coach of the linebackers. Campbell was hired by Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt in December, but left for MSU earlier this week.

While Croom has filled one coordinator spot, he could soon be looking to replace another.

According to a press release from MSU, Croom has granted another university permission to interview offensive coordinator Woody McCorvey for a head coaching position. The name of the school was not specified.
