Southern Miss officials say basketball coach Larry Eustachy is taking a leave of absence following the death of his mother, Helen Eustachy.
Coach Eustachy returned to California on yesterday (Sunday). His mother died Saturday in San Clemente, California.
Coach Eustachy had flown to California to be with her after Tuesday's game with Central Florida. He returned to Hattiesburg in time to coach the Golden Eagles in Saturday's 71-54 victory over Tulane.
Southern Miss athletic director Richard Giannini said he encouraged his coach to take all the time he needs before returning to work. The Golden Eagles didn't practice yesterday.
