The University of West Alabama baseball received national recognition on Monday afternoon, as the Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Poll was announced with UWA ranked fifth. The Red and White received 416 points after sweeping previously second-ranked Columbus State over the weekend at Tartt Field.
Defending National Champion Tampa (2-0) remains in the top spot in the poll with 480 points followed by Mesa State (3-1) with 452 points. Ouachita Baptist (3-0) stands as the highest ranked team from the Gulf South Conference. The Tigers picked up 448 points after sweeping St. Edwards. Rounding out the top five was Mount Olive in fourth with 440 points.
Other schools from the conference receiving recognition in the poll were Delta State in seventh, Montevallo in 15th and West Florida in 29th. Southern Arkansas received two votes in the poll to wrap up the conference’s presence.
West Alabama returns to action on Friday, February 8, when the Tigers host Georgia Southwestern in the first of a four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
