Alabama Suspends Football Player

A Mobile newspaper reports today that Alabama defensive lineman Jeremy Elder admitted robbing two students at gunpoint Saturday night. That's according to sworn testimony in court documents obtained by the Press-Register newspaper.

Elder, a 19-year-old who was redshirted last season, was arrested Sunday night and charged with two counts of felony first-degree robbery.

Tuscaloosa County Chief Deputy Harry Montgomery said Elder is being held today on bond of $60,000, which was reduced from $120,000. He said he had no information on whether Elder has a lawyer.

The newspaper said the student alleging Elder robbed him of $26 at gunpoint Saturday night identified the Crimson Tide football player on video security footage taken at Bryant Hall, the athletic dorm.

Elder, a freshman from College Park, Georgia, has been suspended indefinitely from all football-related activities.
