Highly touted Southern Miss freshman running back Antwain Easterling has been indefinitely suspended from the team by new coach Larry Fedora, the school announced today in a news release.
Freshman linebacker Ken Daily has also been suspended, according to the news release.
The release gave no reason for the suspensions and said that Fedora, who replaced Jeff Bower as the Golden Eagles’ coach on Dec. 12, will not comment on the suspensions.
Easterling played in two games in 2007. He carried 16 times for 86 yards, with 15 of those carries accounting for a team-high 85 yards in USM’s 37-7 victory at UAB.
Easterling was ranked as one of the top running backs in the nation by most recruiting services following his senior year at Miami Northwestern High School. Many schools that were recruiting him backed off after he was charged with having sex in a school bathroom with a minor.
