Carl Lucas made two free throws with four-tenths of a second left as Mississippi Valley State defeated Jackson State 59-58 to win the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament today.

It was a wild back-and-forth finish.

Jackson State's Catraiva Givens put the fourth-seeded Tigers up 58-56 with 27 seconds left after Dwayne Harmason lost track of the score and wrapped up the diminutive point guard.

Stanford Speech made 1 of 2 free throws for the second-seeded Delta Devils to draw them within one and Chris Watson kept the possession alive with an offensive rebound.

Mississippi Valley State (17-15) scrambled for a last-second shot before finding Lucas streaking toward the basket.

Jackson State (13-20) took a timeout to try to freeze Lucas, but the junior calmly swished both free throws. Lucas scored seven points and was named tournament MVP.
