Some major changes will be made for the opening ceremonies of year's State Games of Mississippi, which annually draws thousands of people to Meridian.
The event will take place this year in downtown Meridian, because of construction at Ray Stadium.
Ten thousand people are expected to come to that event, scheduled for Friday, June 20, at 7 p.m.
State Games officials say the parade of athletes and fireworks show will still be a part of the festivities.
"We're really excited. It's something we couldn't have imagined, and now that we're downtown, we wouldn't want to go anywhere else," said director April Luke.
This year's festivities will also include a 'Downtown Get Down' Party before the opening ceremonies, sponsored by the Alliance for Downtown Meridian and the Downtown Association.
