Scoring nine runs in the first four innings, Auburn easily defeated Ole Miss 11-1 on Saturday afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium.
The Rebels (32-20, 13-13 Southeastern Conference) have split the first two games of the series with Auburn (27-24, 11-15). The finale of the three-game series will be at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Ole Miss starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz (4-2) was hit hard early, but also wasn’t helped by a defense that made two costly errors behind him. The freshman gave up nine runs over 3.2 innings, but only three of those runs were earned.
Auburn right-hander Taylor Thompson (3-5) threw a complete game, taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning and holding the Rebels scoreless until the ninth inning.
Auburn’s Brian Fletcher was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Joseph Sanders and Hunter Morris both had two hits and two RBIs for the Tigers.
Ole Miss pinch-hitter Logan Williams drove in Michael Hubbard with an RBI single in the ninth, accounting for the Rebels’ lone run.
