Outgoing Mississippi State coach Ron Polk may stick around and help search for his replacement.
Polk is retiring as No. 7 on college baseball's career victories list with 1,373 at Mississippi State, Georgia and Georgia Southern, not to mention eight trips to the College World Series. But he also finished his 35-year head coaching career with his only losing campaign in a season fraught with obstacles and unexpected setbacks.
Polk says he plans to continue telling anyone who will listen about the evils of the NCAA.
It might be more than a month before incoming Mississippi State athletic director Greg Byrne makes a hire. Until then Polk, who isn't married and has no children or grandchildren to dote over, will be conducting exit interviews and talking with returning players about off-season plans.
