Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz is out of surgery in Birmingham.
There's no immediate word on whether doctors were able to fix his ailing right shoulder during the operation Tuesday afternoon, but an aide to the surgeons said they have spoken with the Braves, and the team will make any announcement about the condition of the 41-year-old pitcher.
Dr. James Andrews and an associate operated on Smoltz's right shoulder, which has been hurting for more than a year. Smoltz is out for the rest of this season but he could come back depending on the outcome of the operation.
