Mississippi State thought it had scored a coup when it signed dual-sport athlete Rashun Dixon. He's the younger brother of Bulldogs running back Anthony Dixon.
In the end, professional baseball won.
Dixon agreed to terms with the Oakland Athletics over the weekend and will report to Oakland's Arizona League team Wednesday.
Dixon was drafted in the 10th round by the Athletics on June 6. At the time, he said he wanted a $600,000 signing bonus. Dixon wouldn't say how much he agreed to. Asked about his $600,000 request, he said "it's close to that."
Dixon, a catcher, had a .511 batting average this season for Terry High School, hitting 14 home runs and driving in 59 runs in 33 games.
