GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Green Bay Packers won't grant Brett Favre's request for his release.
Both general manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy tell The Associated Press the 38-year-old star quarterback is welcome to rejoin the team -- as a backup to Aaron Rodgers.
It's their first public comments since Favre demanded his release this week. You'll recall that Favre held a tearful news conference to announce his retirement in early March.
A trade may be the best resolution, but Thompson and McCarthy declined to discuss that possibility. Thompson says he had not received any inquiries from other teams -- yet.
