HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -- Former NFL tight end Kris Mangum will serve as a replacement assistant coach at Southern Miss.
Head coach Larry Fedora said Wednesday that Mangum will serve as a replacement assistant for Barney Farrar. Fedora said Farrar will have limited duties while undergoing cancer treatment.
Under NCAA rules, Mangum can serve as a replacement coach as long as there is no duplication of duties between the two coaches.
Mangum, a native of Magee and former standout at Ole Miss, played for 10 years with the Carolina Panthers. He caught 151 passes for 1,424 yards and nine touchdowns.
