STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Three members of the Mississippi State football team have been readmitted to the university.
The university says student-athletes Anthony Johnson, Rodney Prince and Jamon Hughes had withdrawn from school during the 2008 spring semester and were required to reapply.
Johnson and Prince are to be placed back on scholarship and will rejoin the football program when classes begin in Starkville on August 18. MSU says Hughes will be given the opportunity to walk-on the team as a non-scholarship student-athlete at that time.
The school says the three may practice with the team, but are ineligible to compete in the upcoming season.
Coach Sylvester Croom said in a statement that the decision represents a "second chance" for the athletes.
