Bonita Lake Returning to Old Form

Updated: Thu 6:58 PM, May 25, 2006

After almost five years, Meridian's Lower Bonita Lake should once again be full of water. City officials have already begun the process of refilling it.

Public works employees began siphoning water from the upper lake to the lower lake Thursday afternoon.

Using two six-inch pipes, they'll be trying to pump between six and seven feet of water back into the lake. It will likely take several weeks to complete.

"It's basically a simple process, just like siphoning anything from one container to the other," said public works director Monty Jackson. "The lower lake is lower than the upper lake, so after you get it started, it's going to work."

A peninsula has also been added to the lower lake, to allow easier access for those who want to fish.
