Southern Miss has accepted an invitation to play in the New Orleans Bowl.
The Golden Eagles accepted the bid on Wednesday and will play the winner of Saturday's Sun Belt Conference championship game between Troy and Arkansas State.
The bowl invitation comes after Southern Miss won four straight games to finish the season following a stumbling 2-6 start under first-year coach Larry Fedora.
The appearance gives the Golden Eagles (6-6) a chance to extend their streak of winning seasons to 15 after it appeared the run would be halted because of a mid season five-game losing streak.
The New Orleans Bowl will be played Dec. 21 in the Louisiana Superdome.
