PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Weyinmi Efejuku (WAY'-mee ehf-eh-JOO'-koo) scored 18 points to help Providence dispatch Jackson State 85-71 on Wednesday night.
Geoff McDermott tallied a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds as six players reached double figures for the Friars (7-3). They trailed by as much as 12 early but dominated the Tigers after halftime.
Jackson State (1-9) knocked down mid-range jumpers and slicing lay-ups early and often, shooting 62.5 percent in the first period en route to a 43-32 halftime lead.
But Providence clamped down defensively and found an offensive groove of its own after the break. The Friars opened the second half on a 24-6 run to take the lead for good.
