HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -- Southern Miss tight end Shawn Nelson has accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl.
Nelson is the 68th Southern Miss player to appear in the annual game used by pro scouts and coaches to evaluate talent and the first since 2004.
The 6-foot-5, 239-pound Gonzales, La., native has one game left to play with the Golden Eagles, who face Troy in the New Orleans Bowl on Sunday.
Nelson caught 51 passes for 541 yards and three touchdowns this season. He currently ranks second in career catches (155), third in yards receiving (2,038) and fourth in receiving touchdowns (16) at Southern Miss.
The Senior Bowl will be played Jan. 24 in Mobile, Ala.
