Statewide Junior College Success
In 2008 several of our area Junior College teams excelled on the state level, and made appearances on the national scene.
In the spring it was the East Central women's hoops team that made headlines. The Lady Warriors won the Region 23 tournament in March in impressive fashion, beating Holmes 67-62 in the tournament championship. E-C's season came to an end in the NJCAA national tournament.
In the summer it was the MCC Diamond Eagles making noise. Head coach Chris Rose and company won the MACJC Central Division title for the sixth year running, and then after losing their first game of the state tournament, the Eagles won four straight games to take their third state title in four years.
In the Fall another team from MCC carried the torch from East Mississippi into national competition. Alex George and the MCC Lady Eagle soccer team followed up their state championship in 2007 with a Region 23 title in 2008. MCC would go on to play in the district championship against Navarro College, and George went on to win coach of the year honors in Region 23.
