#4 - Area Dandy Dozen Selections, Tyler Russell Wins Mr. Football
Living up to the hype can be a daunting task, especially for a high school football player, and when the Jackson Clarion-Ledger released this year's Dandy Dozen, five players from East Mississippi were given plenty of hype to live up to.
Meridian's Tyler Russell, Philadelphia's Josh Boyd, Noxubee County's Patrick Patterson, and Louisville's Clayton Moore and Dennis Thames were all picked among the twelve best players in the state entering the 2008 prep football season, setting the scene for a dominating year from multiple area teams. Of the four area schools with a selected player, three ended the season with a state championship trophy.
By far the most impressive Dandy Dozen selection was Meridian High's Tyler Russell, who dissected defenses all season leading the Cats to a State Championship win over South Panola. Russell finished the season with another award from the Ledger: Mississippi's Mr. Football.
