#3 --- Clarkdale and Newton County Softball State Titles
East Mississippi is known for it's prep softball dominance, but two schools took domination to a new level in 2008: Clarkdale and Newton County won both the fast pitch and slow pitch state championships in their classifications.
For Clarkdale the fast pitch title was won thanks to great pitching and timely hitting. The Lady Bulldogs beat Enterprise in the South State championship series and then went on to defeat Eurpora for the 2-A Title.
In the fall the Lady Bulldogs again had to get past Enterprise, and again Clarkdale beat their rivals in the South State title series. Rick Roberson's bunch completed their slow pitch state title run with a sweep of Hamilton in Jackson.
In 3-A Newton County also had to beat an area rival in both the slow pitch and fast pitch South State title series. The Lady Cougars took down Southeast Lauderdale in May and went on to sweep Nettleton to take the fast pitch championship. In the fall Newton County had to deal with Mack Fanning's Lady Tigers again, and again they were victorious. Justin Chaney's bunch beat South Pontotoc in Jackson to take the 3-A slow pitch title.
