HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -- Courtney Beasley scored 20 points and had 13 rebounds to lead Southern Mississippi to an 83-76 victory over Houston on Saturday.
Beasley made only five field goals, but was 10 of 14 from the line for the Golden Eagles (11-5, 2-1 Conference USA), who have won seven of their past eight games.
Southern Miss led 63-46 with 5:20 remaining, but Houston (11-4, 2-1) chopped to lead to 71-64 on Kelvin Lewis' 3-pointer with 1:18 remaining.
Lewis, who scored a career-high 30 points on Saturday, three days after scoring 29 in a win at Texas-El Paso, hit another 3-pointer to cut the margin to 78-73 with 29 seconds remaining. Beasley ended the game by hitting five consecutive free throws.
Craig Craft led Southern Miss with 21 points.
DaShaun Williams scored 16 points and Aubrey Coleman had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Houston.
