SCOOBA, Miss. – With first place in the MACJC’s North Division standings at stake, the East Mississippi basketball teams play host to Itawamba Thursday evening on the Scooba campus. Game times are set for 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at EMCC’s Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.
In advance of the key North Division hoops doubleheader, EMCC officials are encouraging all fans to wear white to Thursday’s games in support of the East Mississippi basketball teams. In the midst of their best season since 1992-93, coach Sharon Thompson’s Lady Lions are 15-4 overall and 7-1 in divisional play. In sole possession of second place in the North Division standings, coach Mark White’s Lions are currently 12-7 overall on the year and 5-3 against divisional foes.
The Itawamba women’s team is 18-4 overall and 8-0 atop the North Division, while the ICC men are 16-5 overall and in first place with a 6-2 divisional record.
“Games like the ones Thursday are what coaches and players work so hard for during the off-season with conditioning drills, weights and practices,” noted EMCC men's basketball coach Mark White. “With first place on the line against a very good basketball team like Itawamba, we encourage our fans to come out and support our deserving players. Having a loud, packed house Thursday night in Scooba will give us the home court advantage needed to supply that extra boost of energy our teams will thrive on.”
“Thursday's games are very big games for our program, our school, our community, and especially for our hard-working players,” said EMCC women's basketball coach Sharon Thompson. “Our players have worked extremely hard to put themselves in this position. We invite everyone in the community and surrounding areas to experience EMCC basketball at its finest moment on Thursday.”
