The Meridian Community College baseball team continued their winning streak Tuesday afternoon at Alabama Southern. After winning three straight over the weekend MCC swept Alabama Southern to carry their winning streak to five games and an overall record of 5-2.
In the first of a two game double header MCC shutout Alabama Southern 6 to 0.
Cody Thompson (1-0) threw a complete game for the Eagles with six strikeouts and gave up just three hits.
At the plate, MCC was fueled offensively by Corey Dickerson and William Beckwith who each had a solo home-run. But the signature hit of the game belonged to Mississippi State commit, Wesley Thigpen, who's grand slam put the game way for MCC. Jonathan Pace also had two singles at the plate for MCC.
Game two of the double-header is saw MCC get out to a fast 2-0 start in the first inning, a lead the Eagles would never give up- sweeping the double-header with a 13-6 victory in the night cap.
Jonathan Pace had a single and a double while Jordan King had two singles. Corey Dickerson had the first runs scored with a two run home run in the first, he also added a double later in the game. Tyler Vick, former West Lauderdale standout, had a home run in game two. Wesley Thigpen also had a home run and added a single. Evan Weibel added a home run.
On the mound, Matt Cox started and threw three innings. Jason Judge came in for relief and also threw three innings to get the win. Judge had three strikeouts, gave up no runs on two hits.
The Eagles (5-2) now prepare for the Rush Tournament which starts Friday at Scaggs Field.
