Tasmin Mitchell had a career high 41 points, including a decisive three-point play in double overtime, to give LSU a 97-94 victory over Mississippi State on Wednesday night.
LSU (20-4, 8-1) took control of the Southeastern Conference Western Division after Mitchell drove the lane and drew a foul to break a 93-93 tie with less than a minute to play. Mitchell also had 11 rebounds. Marcus Thornton had 19 points and nine rebounds, Bo Spencer added 15 and Terry Martin had 11.
Jarvis Varnado also had a career high with 31 points and six blocks to lead the Bulldogs (16-8, 6-3) before fouling out in overtime. Dee Bost added 20 points and three steals and Barry Stewart had 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Tigers led 31-26 at halftime and never trailed in the second half. But Varnado hit one of two free throws with 19 seconds left to send it to overtime.
