STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi State football signee Chad Bumphis' eligibility has been reinstated by the NCAA. MSU associate athletic director for compliance Bracky Brett says he was informed of the ruling Thursday. In an Oct. 10 letter to the Southeastern Conference, MSU self-reported a violation that it said occurred on Sept. 8 in Tupelo when Bumphis walked up to then-Coach Sylvester Croom and grabbed Croom's shoulder when Croom was visiting with another coach. That would violate an NCAA bylaw that limits the amount and nature of contact coaches have with prospects.
