Amanda Jones scored 26 points to lead H.W. Byers to its second straight Girls Class 2A state championship with a 78-53 victory over Kemper County on Friday.
Byers (34-4) raced to a 24-1 first-quarter lead and was never challenged. The Marshall County school led 42-26 at halftime and outscored Kemper County 18-2 during the final 4 minutes of the third quarter to take a 68-40 lead.
Symone Gorman added 15 points and 14 rebounds and Kourtney Coleman had 13 points for Byers, which out rebounded Kemper County 43-35.
Alondra Jefferson led Kemper County (28-9) with 15 points, Kundriay Spencer added 11 and Rotasha Windom had 10.
Kemper County committed 27 turnovers and shot just 27 percent from the field.
