JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Za'Hara Williams had 14 points and nine rebounds to lead Yazoo City to its first Girls 4A State Championship with a 37-23 victory over Northeast Lauderdale on Saturday.
Yazoo City (24-10) used an 11-4 scoring spree in the second quarter to turn a 10-8 first quarter deficit into a 19-14 lead at the half.
Yazoo City extended its lead to 29-16 after three quarters, while limiting Northeast Lauderdale to only one basket in the third quarter. The first-time state champs outrebounded Northeast Lauderdale 39-26 en route to victory.
Northeast Lauderdale (23-11) was held scoreless during a 13 minute stretch of the game and made only 9 of 46 shots.
Kamille Horne led Northeast Lauderdale with nine points.
The win is the ninth in a row for Yazoo City, which also won 13 of its last 14 games dating back to the regular season.
