Jantel Lavender had 20 points and Ohio State scored its final 10 points on free throws to beat Mississippi State 64-58 last night in an NCAA second-round game. The Buckeyes advance to the Berkeley regional to meet the San Diego State-Stanford winner on Saturday. Tysheka Grimes scored 20 of her 22 points in the opening half for Mississippi State. Alexis Rack added 19 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Southern Miss basketball coach Larry Eustachy is like most Americans in these trying times: He believes bonuses should be earned. So he returned $25,000 he was due this year. The reasons were simple: Times are tough and wins were tough to come by. Southern Miss athletic director Richard Giannini said he has never had a coach return a bonus before.

Mississippi State's Jarvis Varnado and David Huertas and Terrico White of Ole Miss are finalists for the award given annually to the state of Mississippi's best men's college basketball player.
CLEVELAND, Miss. (AP) -- The Delta State Lady Statesmen play today against West Texas A-and-M in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Tournament. The game will be played in San Antonio.
