OXFORD, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi and Memphis have moved their season opener to Sunday, September 6t, at the request of ESPN so the game can be broadcast on the cable network. The 2:30 p.m. game in Memphis will be one of two Rebels games on ESPN in September, joining Ole Miss' Thursday, September 24th game at South Carolina. The contest with the Tigers was originally scheduled for September 5th.
UNDATED (AP) -- Former Mississippi State star Rafael Palmeiro and former Bulldog coach Ron Polk are among the 10 players and coaches chosen for induction into the College Baseball Hall of Fame for 2009. The inductees will be honored on July 3rd in Lubbock, Texas.
MADISON, Miss. (AP) -- Southern Miss football coach Larry Fedora is bringing spring football to Madison Central High School on Friday. The Golden Eagles will go through drills before finishing the workout with their first scrimmage of the spring.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -- DeAndre Brown is focusing on being ready for Southern Miss' September 5th season opener against Alcorn State in Hattiesburg. Brown broke his leg in the New Orleans Bowl. He is sitting out spring drills. The 6-foot-6, 240-pound Brown is scheduled to began light running workouts when spring drills conclude on April 18th.
