ATLANTA (AP) -- Steve Wilson was sure the nerves would disappear after his first few holes at Augusta National. They didn't. The U.S. Mid-Amateur Champion and Ocean Springs, Mississippi, resident never got comfortable Thursday playing in his first Masters. On a day ripe for birdies and low scores, he finished at 7-over 79. Wilson played with Tom Watson and Ian Poulter and played with them again Friday.
STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Redshirt freshman defensive back Montario Patterson has left the Mississippi State football team. Coach Dan Mullen says Patterson decided to pursue other opportunities. Patterson played at Biggersville High School.
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) -- Former Ole Miss basketball player Joe Kyles has died. He was 53. Kyles played at Ole Miss from 1975 to 1978. He was recently identified as the victim of a March fire at his home in Shaw.
UNDATED (AP) -- Mississippi State plays at Tennessee today in college baseball action. Elsewhere, Southern Miss is at Houston and Ole Miss hosts South Carolina.
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Governor Haley Barbour has signed a deer hunting bill that will allow each hunter to kill five antlerless deer per season -- not counting those taken under a state-run deer management program -- regardless of weapon used. The bill takes effect July 1st.
