MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) -- The death of retired NFL quarterback Steve McNair has the Boys and Girls Club of East Mississippi scrambling for a new speaker for its annual event on Thursday.
The club's Celebration of Excellence in Meridian is a major fund raiser for the organization.
Clay Holladay, president of the club's board of directors, says the organization wants someone with McNair's commitment to working with young people.
The club serves more than 2,000 children at four locations in Lauderdale and Kemper counties. Boys and Girls Club officials say the agency is now facing a deficit, making the fundraising dinner a must.
McNair was found shot to death in his condo in Nashville on Saturday.
