ORLANDO, FL --- Last week (July 5-10) members of the Queen City Lightning Track Club competed against national and international competition at the AAU National Club Championships at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida. Diqwun Martin (8), DeCourtney Turner (15), Shala Ruttley (16), and Andrew Brewster (17) were the runners that represented the Q.C.L. All runners competed in the 200 meter dash: Martin ran 44.44 seconds, Turner ran a personal best 29.97 seconds, Ruttley ran a personal best 27.48 seconds, and Brewster turned in a good performance with a time of 23.60 seconds.
Turner and Brewster also ran in the 400 meter dash. Turner ran 1:13.95 and Brewster ran 52.93 seconds with two great individual efforts. Ruttley competed in the 400 meter hurdles. She ran a personal best 1:09.53 to qualify for the finals. Ruttley elected not to run in the finals to give another athlete an opportunity to qualify for the Junior Olympics. Ruttley has already qualified for the AAU Junior Olympic Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Travis Brooks (17) will also be competing with Ruttley at the Junior Olympics (Aug. 1-5).
