OXFORD — Ole Miss will not hold “Meet the Rebels” day this year because of concerns about influenza.
Meet the Rebels Day, where fans can pose for pictures with and get autographs from Rebel football players and coaches, was scheduled for Saturday at the Indoor Practice Facility on campus.
“After consultation with our team physicians and Coach Houston Nutt, we felt it was in the best interest of our football team to cancel this year’s ‘Meet the Rebels Day’,” Ole Miss athletics director Pete Boone is quoted as saying in a news release.
Said Nutt in the release: “While we may be overly cautious regarding the flu, our season opener is less than three weeks away and we can’t take any chances. We certainly regret not being able to interact with our fans at this time.”
