Alabama's conservation commissioner, Barnett Lawley, says it's time to raise the fees for hunting, fishing and boating licenses.

Lawley said they were last raised in 1989, and the cost of operating Alabama's outdoors programs have gone up a lot since then.

Lawley said he will ask the state legislature to raise the cost of a resident hunting license from $16 to $24, and a resident fishing license from $9.50 to $12.

Lawley said he isn't sure yet what he will recommend for saltwater fishing licenses, out-of-state licenses and boating licenses.

Lawley plans to present the fee increases in the legislature's regular session, which begins Mar. 6.
