For the first time in nearly a quarter of a century, the University of West Alabama has a new men's basketball coach.
Former Alabama-Birmingham assistant Eddie McCarter has been named the new Tigers coach. He replaces Rick Reedy, who retired after 23 years in Livingston.
McCarter also becomes the first African-American head coach in UWA school history.
McCarter brings over 25 years of coaching experience to the Tigers.
Prior to serving at UAB, he spent 14 years as head coach at Division One Texas-Arlington, where he was the winningest coach in that school's history.
He also was an outstanding prep coach in his home state of Alabama.
McCarter is a 1975 graduate of UAB.
