A Mississippi State starting forward will play in the Bulldogs' NIT second round game with Bradley Saturday, according to coach Rick Stansbury.

Starkville police say Dietric Slater was arrested Wednesday afternoon on misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license and not wearing a seat belt. He posted bond and was released.

Police Chief David Lindley says Slater allegedly had one pill of the prescription drug Xanax in his possession.

Stansbury told The Clarion-Ledger that the license suspension was the result of Slater's record not reflecting a traffic fine he had recently paid. He also said the one pill of Xanex found by police belonged to the woman who owns the SUV Slater was driving, a 2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer.

Slater missed the first 12 games of the season under a suspension for violating unspecified team rules.
