Hundreds of athletes put forth their best effort as Area 5 Special Olympics hosted track and field events at Ray Stadium on Thursday.

"Today is a celebration of abilities. It's all about what people are capable of doing when given a chance. So, it's a matter of coming out and participating in that celebration," said Pam Gunsten of Special Olympics North America.

"It's just a good feeling to see them have a good time," said local director Pat Barber. "They don't spend their time thinking about trivial things. They think about how much they love one another, love you."

"By coming to Special Olympics they can see what they can achieve. They are achievers," said Fredna Cross, one of the original organizers.

These 400 athletes are all winners in athletics and attitudes.
