Jeff Flagg batted in two runs off Duke Welker, who took a no-hitter into the seventh, to lead Mississippi State to a 2-1 victory over Arkansas Saturday.
The Bulldogs (21-7, 7-4 SEC) will try for the sweep when the teams meet in the third game of the series tomorrow at Baum Stadium.
Mitch Moreland hit Welker's first pitch of the seventh for a double down the left-field line. Welker then got Brian LaNinfa to fly out to center but Joseph McCaskill singled to right, putting runners at the corners. Welker got his career-high 11th strikeout before Flagg did his damage.
Arkansas (24-10, 7-4) lost back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Welker (4-2) took the loss. Mississippi State starter Justin Pigott (3-3) got the complete-game victory. He scattered eight hits, allowed one unearned run, struck out four and walked one.
Arkansas took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth on Jeff Nutts RBI single to left field.
