John Smoltz outpitched longtime friend and former teammate Tom Glavine as Atlanta handed the New York Mets their first loss, 5-to-3.
The game was tied 2-to-2 in the sixth until the Braves scored three times. Matt Diaz and former Met Chris Woodward each lifted sacrifice flies before Craig Wilson scored the Braves' final run on Edgar Renteria's infield single.
Diaz also homered to support Smoltz, who gave up two runs and seven hits in six innings.
Glavine was victimized by the Mets' first two errors of the season. He gave up five runs and four hits over five and a-third, but just two of the runs were earned.
Paul Lo Duca hit a solo homer for the Mets, who are tied for first with the Braves in the NL East at 4-1.
