The San Francisco 49ers have landed linebacker Patrick Willis with the eleventh overall choice in today's NFL draft.
Willis had an outstanding senior season for Mississippi, finishing with 137 tackles, eleven and a-half for loss, three sacks and seven pass breakups. He also forced two fumbles and recovered one.
Willis won the Butkus Award in 2006 and was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year while landing on the AP All-America first team. He also put up big numbers as a junior despite playing with numerous injuries, recording a conference-leading 128 tackles, three sacks, one interception and two forced fumbles.
Willis has an incredibly sculpted body at 6'1" and 242 pounds. He is a solid tackler and has the range to cover much of the field. He plays well off blocks and could make an impact as a pash-rusher, but his cover skills show some room for improvement.
