The 2007 campaign continues for East Central Community College baseball and softball teams as both squads have qualified for the upcoming MACJC State Tournaments.
The Diamond Warriors, Central Division runners-up, completed regular season action with a 27-21 overall record and were 9-7 in division play under first-year head coach Neal Holliman.
East Central begins state tournament action by taking on host Mississippi Gulf Coast at 7 p.m. Thursday on the Perkinston campus. Gulf Coast won the MACJC South Division title.
Rounding out the six-team bracket are North Division winner Northwest Mississippi Community College and runner-up Itawamba Community College; Central Division winner Meridian Community College; and South Division runner-up Pearl River Community College.
The double-elimination tournament continues through Sunday, May 6, when the championship game gets underway at 1 p.m. in Perkinston.
The Lady Diamond Warriors, who are 28-18 overall, captured their third-straight MACJC Central Division title with a 12-4 mark under fourth-year head coach Scott Hill.
East Central begins competition by challenging the Pearl River/Northeast winner at 2 p.m. Friday. Northwest Mississippi Community College, MACJC North Division champion, is serving as host for this year’s event.
Northeast Mississippi Community College is the North Division runner-up and Pearl River Community College placed second in the South.
Also qualifying for the state tournament are Hinds Community College, Central Division runners-up; and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, South Division winner.
The three-day tournament concludes on Sunday, May 6, with the championship contest set to begin at 2 p.m. in Senatobia.
Both squads can also qualify for their respective Region 23 Tournament - scheduled the following week- by winning at least one game in state competition.
